Road to Emmaus Notes for Later

Last summer there was a chance I was going to be speaking at a youth fireside and I had prepared these notes. So I wanted to save them somewhere in case I would have use for them in the future.

As I was trying to come up with a topic to share with you this evening. My mind was directed to share with you my two favorite stories from the New Testament that took place three days after our Savior Jesus Christ was crucified. The first is found in Luke 24 if you want to follow along. I am going to be reading the first 33 verses. Now I want you to try and picture in your minds these events.

Road to Emmaus

Luke 24 1-33

32 And they said one to another, Did not our ^aheart ^bburn within us, while he ^ctalked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

What does this scripture mean to you?

As a member of the Godhead one of the roles of the Holy Ghost is to confirm truth to our minds and our hearts.

The footnote reference to the word heart in this scripture is

Doctrine and Covenants 9:8

8 But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right.

We are often like the disciples. We let the worries of the day keep us from recognizing that the Savior is walking alongside us. We are quick to treat our trials as curses, instead of trusting that with God's perspective our curses may actually be blessings. May we be more willing to wait upon the Lord, and may we see things as they really are as we walk our own roads to Emmaus.

My second favorite event that is shared in the New Testament is found in John.

John 20: 19-31

29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast ^aseen me, thou hast believed: ^bblessed are they that have not seen, and yet have ^cbelieved.

31 But these are ^awritten, that ye might ^bbelieve that Jesus is the ^cChrist, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have ^dlife through his ^ename.

I Have a Testimony

I have a testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ and of our Heavenly Father that they are real. That we were made in their image, that they love us more than we can ever comprehend, and their wish is that we will turn to them in our joys and in our trials. I have a testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ which was restored to the earth by the Prophet Joseph Smith. I have a testimony of the Bible and the Book of Mormon and am a better person because of the truths and learning that have come when I have studied their pages. I have a testimony of a life hereafter. At special times I have felt the presence of those who have since passed away, close to me. I know this mortal life is not the end. I have a testimony that our Savior, Jesus Christ lived and died for us so that we may know how to live to return to live with him and our Father in Heaven for eternity. I have a testimony of our current Prophet, President Russell M Nelson and have felt the spirit strongly in his presence. I have a testimony of our Apostles and learn so much from them with every conference talk. I have a testimony of temples, and the covenants we make with our Heavenly Father there. Temples are truly a House of the Lord in every sense of the phrase. I have a testimony of baptism and the cleansing power it gives because of our Saviors sacrifice for us. I have a testimony of repentance. It is through this process that our Savior and the Holy Ghost can change our hearts and minds for the better. I have a testimony as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, that there is no other place on earth that has the fullness of our Saviors gospel and priesthood authority to administer in His name. I have a testimony of the Holy Ghost who is my constant companion. A day does not go by without his influence in my life. Comforting me, guiding me, and helping me to make better decisions. I am so grateful for my testimony. It is by far my most precious possession and pray daily that I never lose it. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, our Advocate with the Father, our Elder Brother, and our Friend. Amen.
